Multiplier Event at the English School of Gothenburg on May, 2nd, 2019

The Multiplier Event at the ESG took place in Gothenburg on May 2, 2019. The event was organised to inform teachers in the area about the intellectual outputs of the CultureShake project.

The ESG is the lead of the intellectual output on peer teaching material. So this was a very special occasion to mingle with the co-authors, the students of the ESG. The students developed peer teaching material for other students. During the learning activities in Singen, Stratford-upon-Avon and Gothenburg they collected ideas and methods for their products.

Not only to present theory but also to put it into practice they provided their interpretations of The Tempest and A Midsummer Night´s Dream.
The ESG took around 23 9 year old students and the short versions of the Shakespeare plays. They were mentored and directed by the 15 and 16 year old students already familiar with the plays. They performed to an invited audience. Their parents loved seeing them perform and they loved to be directed by the older students, a great antidote to the fear of older students. The children have numerous languages but the parents were impressed that here they performed in yet another language, Shakespearean English.

We had some great feedback from the older students.

Student 1
“I got to know people that I probably wouldn’t have gotten to know otherwise and I think it strengthened the bond between our year groups. I know some of the kids enjoyed their lines and roles a lot. I also think they enjoyed showing the performance to their parents. I would love to direct again. I was pleased with the final result.”

Student 2
I enjoyed working with the children and teaching them the things that I learnt while doing the CUSHA project. I also found it fun to develop the play from the start and see my ideas come to life. I also loved that everyone (including the other students in the school) enjoyed the performances and appreciated our hard work.”

Would you like to direct again?
“Definitely, yes. It was great fun and working with the kids was amazing.”

Student 3
“I think that best thing about this little project was that all of this has taken a lot of team work and sharing. Everyone had to work with everyone and it has led to us getting to know each other, all the younger students, seniors and even teachers. I think the younger students have been able to find a role model or someone to look up to from the seniors. All the seniors were responsible and set a good example for the younger students, which I find important.”

Would you like to direct again?
“Yes, I found it interesting and fun. I would love to do this again.”
